Two children died and three others were hurt in a blast on Monday morning caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) believed to have been planted by the Abu Sayyaf Group in Albarka, Basilan.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Mindanao Command identified the fatalities as Niyadz Pising, 2 and Ombek Akbar, 5, residents of Barangay Danapah.
Wounded in the blast were Pahmiya Pising and Salmiya Akbar, both aged 4, and and Suraima Akbar, 25.
Lt. Col. Franco Raphael Alano of the Philippine Army said the victims were playing when one of them accidentally triggered the IED.
